We were supplied this amazing bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio to come up with some Oscar worthy cocktails. There is a lot of buzz with this year’s Oscars with the debate about Hollywood and the views of actors of color. I have seen talented people of all backgrounds and there are tremendous reasons to recognize this. I hope this is a path to greatness in our country. I will be enjoying a nice evening of dressing up at home to pretend I am at this event. The best way to do this is to have some friends over, watch many of the movies that were nominated, and prep some upscale food and drinks.
The only difficult part of using the Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is the wine tastes amazing on its own. It’s hard to think about wanting to doctor it up and the fear that you could mess up a good thing. However, I believe we were able to kick it up a bit for such an event!
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio cocktails
We started with a simple Sangria and added strawberries and pineapple to a shaker to allow the flavors to fuse together a little better. We used frozen fruit instead of adding ice so that we didn’t water down the drink and still infused the most flavor into it. If you cut up the fruit it helps infuse the flavor better because it releases it into the wine and you can literally salivate when you smell this drink.
4 ozs of wine
1/2 cup of fruit of choice
Shake in a shaker to mix effectively and pour into a glass
1 large strawberry – optional
1 pineapple chunk- optional
Yes those little extras on your glass go a long way to creating the ambiance of such an event. We chose strawberries and pineapple because it complimented the wine the best.
This was a little more clever and to play off the natural flavors of the Pinot Grigio and to expand on it. We used fresh mint leaves, lime juice and mixed it up nicely. It was really mellow but looked so sophisticated. We didn’t add any extra sweetener because it really didn’t need it.
4 ozs Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio
1/2 lime juiced
handful of mint leaves, chopped or mottled.
Add all ingredients to a shaker with crushed ice and mix well.
Pour into a glass and serve. I enjoyed the flecks of mint leaves adding color to the glass.
We felt very sophisticated with these drinks. You can find Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio in Harris Teeter, Total Wine, and World Market. It is a truly spectacular wine to savor. I look forward to more of this during the summer.
